We characterize fifteen polymorphic microsatellite loci isolated from Ichthyophis bannanicus genomic libraries, which enriched for ATAG-motif microsatellites. The fifteen Loci were screened on a group of 32 individuals from Mengla population. These markers revealed a relatively high degree of genetic diversity (3-3 alleles per locus) and heterozygosity (Ho ranged from 0.036 to 0.935 and He ranged from 0.105 to 0.892). In the fifteen loci, just three showed deviation from Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium (HWE). The high level of polymorphism revealed by these microsatellite markers will prove useful for the study of gene flow, population structure and evolutionary history of Ichthyophis bannanicus.
