Study 1: A reliability generalization was conducted on studies that reported use of the Suinn-Lew Asian Self-Identity Acculturation Scale SL-ASIA), published between 1987 and 2013. For inclusion in this meta-analysis, each study had to have reported a Cronbachs alpha reliability coefficient for its sample. Other variables of interest, such as country of birth for respondents and language of the SL-ASIA e.g., English versus a translation), were assessed to determine whether they affected the reliability of scores produced by the SL-ASIA when administered to a particular sample. Data from 83 studies representing 12,992 participants were analyzed; only 84 out of 193 published studies 43.52%) reported reliability scores for their sample. The reliability scores produced by the SL-ASIA ranged from .82 to .96 with an average of .91 SD = .03); therefore, all of the reported reliability scores for this instrument were in the acceptable to excellent range. A significant difference was found in total reliability scores for journal articles versus dissertations, with the former having higher scores M = .87, SD = .05 vs. M = .84, SD = .07). Additionally, standard deviation of age showed a statistically significant correlation with reliability scores r = .30, n = 46, p = .04). This indicates the more heterogeneous a sample was in age, the higher the reliability score produced by that sample. Our results demonstrate that SL-ASIA continues to be an instrument with strong psychometric properties when used with diverse populations, and it is therefore appropriate for continued use with studies on acculturation. Study 2: A reliability generalization was conducted on studies that reported use of the Attitudes toward Lesbians and Gay Men ATLG) scale, published between 1994 and 2013. For inclusion in this meta-analysis, each study had to have reported a Cronbachs alpha reliability coefficient for its sample. The reliability scores produced by the ATLG ranged from .82 to .96 with an average of .91 SD = .03); therefore, all of the reported reliability scores for this instrument were in the acceptable to excellent range. A significant difference was found in total reliability scores for predominantly Caucasian versus predominantly non-Caucasian samples, with the former having higher scores M = .93, SD = .03 vs. M = .86, SD = .03). Additionally, mean scores on the Attitudes toward Lesbians ATL) subscale was negatively correlated to reliability scores for the ATL scale, indicating individuals with negative attitudes towards lesbians responded less consistently.
