The purpose of this research is to study incompatible landscapes along the freeways in urban America. The study reveals how the urban freeway and green areas (greenscapes) bordering the expressways are both part of urban culture. Each of these elements has become essential to everyday life in urban areas; however, they exist in conflict with one another. The study also addresses the question of whether or not greenscapes have an environmental impact, or are just a mask to cover an environmental eyesore. This study involved the application of various aspects of urban, environmental, and transportation geography.;In this study the author uses a literature review to examine what has been written about this subject in various journals and by some departments of transportation across the country. The author finds in his study that these landscapes do ease the aesthetics of the urban freeway, but do not seem to be economically feasible in all situations across the United States.;Key words. urban, freeways, environment, landscapes
