Australian limonite is widely used all over the world,known with the properties of high assimilation ability and low bonding strength.Although measures such as quasi-particle design and densification etc.have been proposed to improve the high temperature behavior,they increased the complexity of the producing process.The method to separate large particles of limonite so that they won ' t be coated with adhering fines in granulating process has been studied based on influence of limonite assimilation on effective bonding phase.The results gained are as follows : ( 1) Limonite nuclei had adverse effect on bonding strength of quasi-particles as they assimilated into the primary bonding liquid,increased the viscosity and decreased the fluidity of secondary liquid phase.( 2) Assimilated depth has a positive relationship with the lowest assimilation temperature,and increases as the temperature rising.( 3 ) By separating the large particles of limonite,assimilation degree of primary liquid phase weakens as the contacting interface decreases,the bonding strength goes up,which is in accordance with the sintering pot test.
