The traditional green wave coordination control algorithm requires signal cycle of junctions are all equal, and it is difficult to deal with the situation where the volumes of intersection are quite different from each other. An improved model based MAXBAND algorithm was proposed to solve this problem. The improved model only requires the presence of an integer multiple relationship between intersection's signalcycles when they are put together to the same green wave coordination control scheme, and is more fit the actual traffic demand. An simulation evaluation of the efficiency between traditional model and the improved model was given, the testing data was surveyed in Jiangnan Avenue Haizhu District of Guangzhou City, and the evaluation data was output by VISSIM.Experimental results show that the improved model has greatly improved on the average number of stops, average vehicle delays and the average travel time indicators.
