摘要
Sherlock Holmes is a brilliant detective by Arthur Conan Doyle created in his book The Stories of Sherlock Holmes. His calm, sharp intelligent brain and his wonderful logical reasoning have filtered into reader's minds, thus he has become an iconic figure of detective. This detective novel not only made a deep influence on creating detective stories afterwards, loved by the majority of readers, but also attracted numerous celebrities to research it, for instance, the study on Chinese translation of the detective stories of Sherlock Holmes, the study on logical reasoning of Sherlock Holmes, the study on narration methods of this book, the study on historical background of this novel, research into the film and TV adaptation of this novel and so on. Then this thesis discusses the status and influence of the two characters Irene Adler and Professor Moriarty in The Stories of Sherlock Holmes. Both of them only appeared one or two stories in this novel, but they also had a deep effect for readers and played an important status in this book, which were no less a deep influence than the leading role Sherlock Holmes' or Watson's. Through this research can gain insight into why the two characters are so popular.
