Application of Tungsten-Based Compounds in Renewable Energy

Dye-sensitized solar cells(DSCs) have attracted remarkable attention due to their high efficiency, environmentally friendly and low cost.As an indispensible part of DSCs, the counter electrode(CE) plays a crucial role in high efficient DSCs.Therefore, it is significant to develop advanced CE materials for high-performance DSCs, which have considerable catalytic activity and stability.To improve the degradation efficiency of anaerobic digestion(AD) and enhance biogas production, adding accelerants in AD is an effective technical strategy.The use of transition metal Compounds(TMCs) as accelerants in AD can make the waste resource effciently improvable in the biogas production and fertilizer utilization.Our previous work demonstrated that WO_3, W_(18)O_(49) and W_2N used as CEs in DSCs show superior electrocatalytic activity for the reduction of I_3~- in DSCs and high PCEs of 6.9%, 6.7% and 6.2%, match the performance of DSCs based on a Pt CE(6.7%).In the present work, Compared with the control check(CK, 344/604 mL ·g~(-1)·VS~(-1), 41.53%), substantially higher cumulative biogas production(422-430/590-696 mL·g~(-1)·VS~(-1)) and chemical oxygen demand(COD) removal rates(59.28%-67.82%) were achieved using tungsten-based oxides/carbides/Nitrides as accelerants in the AD system.
