Except for the Cambrian Chengjiang, Guanshan and Kaili faunas with the characteristic “Burgess Shale-type” preservation, the fossil Lagersttätten are unique taphonomic windows. Integrated analyses of all biotas in space and time, the authors conclude that: 1) no unambiguous animal fossils before Ediacaran; and 2) animal life experienced episodic four radiations and four extinctions across the Precambrian Cambrian transitional interval. In addition, fossils evidence from ce prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />ce w:st="on">South Chinace> indicates that animals show an onshore-offshore pattern during their early evolution, and first colonization of animals occurred in Qiongzhusian.ce prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
