摘要
The fossil record of the origin and early diversification of the Metazoa is extremely rich in Guizhou Province. Five exceptionally-preserved biotas are present in Ediacaran and Cambrian strata. From oldest to youngest, these are the Weng’an Biota and the Miaohe (Jiangkou) Biota of the Ediacaran, the Small Shelly Faunas of the earliest Cambrian, the Niutitang Biota of the lower part of the second series of the Cambrian, and the Balang Biota of the middle-upper to upper part of the second series of the Cambrian, and the Kaili Biota of basal part of the third series of the Cambrian. This record reflects the evolutionary sequence from the origin of animals (Weng’an Biota), to the divergence of animals in the Ediacaran (Jiangkou Miaohe Biota), to the rise of skeletonization (Gaojiashan Biota), the origin of biological mineralization (Small Shelly Fauna), the radiation of Sponges (Niutitang Biota), the appearance of the major Classes of the animals (Chengjiang Fauna), and the evolution and diversification of complex marine ecosystems (Kaili Biota).
