Huangshi inkstone deposit in Dushu town of Fangcheng is located on the south fringe of North China Plate. The inkstone belongs to the middle-upper part of Cuizhuang Formation which is situate at the lower part of Luoyu Group of middle-late Proterozoic Era, and it mainly consists of argillaceous slate and silty (or sandy) argillaceous slate. The inkstone can be divided into 4, 5 and 4 categories according to the color, lithology and mineral ingredient respectively. Furthermore, there are 8 inkstone varieties. Deposit genesis is thought to be low metamorphic and land facies to neritic facies sedimentary deposit.
