The Constraints of Bed Thickness on the Development of Oblique Structural Fractures in the Sandstones

摘要

Outcrop analogue study can significantly improve the understanding of fracture distribution and the relationship between development of fractures and impact factors. In this paper, we mainly investigate the constraints of bed thickness BT on the fractal dimension FD of oblique structural fractures in Fuyang, Zhejiang province. The primary fracture sets are oblique relative to the bedding, although one nearly parallel set is also present. The parallel fractures cut thick strata into small pieces and form a dense net work of fractures in the thick Strata. The oblique fractures, which result from the local stress, are inferred to form during folding. In the literatures, it is often reported that the relationship between FD of extensional structural fractures and BT is linear. However, in the study area correlations between FD of shear structural fractures and BT are rather poorly linear. The fractal dimension is also very high in thick layers. The recognition of this region provides an important clue for seismic interpretation and seismic inversion.
