Research on Sequence Stratigraphy of Late Cretaceous in Jiangxi Province

Based on the theory of sequence stratigraphy, the late Cretaceous red basins in Jiangxi Province have been studied in this paper. About thirty residual basins in Jiangxi Province are restored to five prototype basins, including Xiushui-Wuning, Qingjiang-Poyang, Jitai-Xinjiang, Ganzhou-Xinfeng and HuichangNanfeng. By studying on sedimentary environment, it is found that all basins belong to"dry catchment basin"formed by the deposition of alluvial fan or proluvial fan except Huichang-Nanfeng basin, which has developed temporary lakes during Zhoutian period.Sixteen short-period climate events and four mid-long period climate events are distinguished basing on paleo-climate research on the typical stratum of each prototype basin. Using the sediments formed in worldwide extremely dry climate period as the datum plane, a isochronous correlation or quasi-isochronous correlation of the sediments of each basin has been built on the basis of the short-period climate events. Based on the theory of fluctuation of base-level cycle, the stratum of the late Cretaceous in Jiangxi Province has been divided into two tectonic sequences and six sedimentary sequences.
