According to the engineering practice of cutting slopes alone expressway in Fujian Province, 9 typical types of disaster of cutting slopes, such as flake-away, mud-flow, rock-fall, superficial-slip, slough, collapse, toppling failure, stagger-fall, landslide and buckling failure, were summarized. The movement characters of cutting slopes were discussed in this paper. Small scale failures of cutting slope were flowing, slipping, sloughing in the wet soil and flaking, and falling in rock mass. Big scale failures included toppling in countertendency rock mass, collapsing in jointed rock slope, caving in the weathering rock and soft soil, staggering in the rock slope with steep discontinuous plane and soft toe, and sliding alone some slip surface.
