摘要

The Huabei area in China is widespreadly covered by Middle-Upper Proterozoic and Lower Palaeozoic manne carbonate rocks with several thousand meters in thickness.There are some difficulties in studying the genetic mechanism of hydrocarbons in these source rocks because of the generally high matura- tion of the organic matter. The purpose of the present paper is to evaluate whether or not the Middle-Upper Proterozoic and Lower Palaeozoic marine carbonate rocks in the Huabei area are an important suite of hydro- carbon source rocks and to provide the petroleum exploration in this area with some scientific data. The pre- sent paper mainly deals with the characteristics of sedimentary environments, abundance and maturity of or- ganic matter, kerogen types and biomarkers.of the hydrocarbon source rock formed in the Middle-Upper Pro- terozoic and Lower Palaeozoic strata of the Huabei area. Moreover, an evaluation on the potential hydrocar- bon generation of the source rock has been made and favorable areas for the formation of the hydrocarbon source rock within this area have been pointed out as well.
