•Spatial decision support system evaluates energy potential of anaerobic digestion.•SDSS involves a sequence of stages and decision-making strategies of spatial analysis.•Seven crop residues located in the region of Colombia were assessed with SDSS.•Spatial distribution, optimized supply chain, and economical costs were indicated.•SDSS can be applied to evaluate biomass resources and potential of co-digestion.
