A limiter-based well-balanced discontinuous Galerkin method for shallow-water flows with wetting and drying: One-dimensional case

•We introduce a robust wetting and drying treatment for piecewise linear RKDG methods.•A velocity based “limiting” of the momentum provides stability at the wet/dry front.•A blended limiting is introduced to further improve a stable velocity computation.•The scheme is positivity-preserving, mass-conservative and well-balanced.•Numerical tests show the scheme’s applicability to a large variety of flow regimes.
