•A new cycle was designed to improve basic organic Rankine cycle performance.•Peng Robinson equation of state was used to obtain properties of working fluids.•Operating parameters were optimized with three different objective functions.•Efficiency of new organic Rankine cycle is higher than other considered cycles.•Return on investment of new cycle for Iran is more than France and America.
