S. J. Liu, T. Zhang, H. Y. Liu, and co-workers develop a multifunctional theranostic platform based on mesoporous carbon nanospheres containing porphyrin-like metal centers (PMCS). The black PMCS nanoparticles show exceptionally high photothermal conversion efficiency and comparable singlet oxygen (1O2) quantum yield. As described on page 8379, because of the promising photothermal/photodynamic properties of PMCS, its utilization as a platform for imaging guided precise conformal phototherapy is anticipated.
