Diazirine-decorated gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), which can form covalently crosslinked aggregates upon laser irradiation (λ = 405 nm) are reported by H. Shi, M. Y. Gao and co-workers in article 1604894. Both in vitro and in vivo studies indicate that light-triggered assembly remarkably shifts the surface plasmon resonance of the Au particles to near-infrared regions, which, in consequence, effectively enhances the efficacy of photothermal therapy and sensitivity of photoacoustic imaging of tumours.
