Back Cover: Poly(ferrocenylsilane) (PFS) organometallic polymers with ferrocene in the backbone and vinylimidazolium side groups are used as redox active, water soluble macro-crosslinkers which copolymerize with NIPAM to form dual-responsive hydrogels. PFS serves as reducing agent to form gold nanoparticles in situ within the hydrogel. The localized surface plasmon resonance characteristics of the resulting composite hydrogel depend on the gold particle distance and can be tuned reversibly by altering temperature, which triggers a phase-volume transition.
