Three-dimensional Co3O4@SnO2@Ag core–shell nanowire arrays are prepared by the hydrothermal synthesis of Co3O4 nanowire arrays and subsequent deposition of SnO2 and Ag by radiofrequency sputtering. When used as anode materials in lithium-ion batteries, the Co3O4@SnO2@Ag core–shell nanowire arrays show good cycling and rate performance, compared to corresponding Co3O4 arrays, Co3O4@SnO2 arrays, and Co3O4@SnO2@Ag planar electrodes. The enhanced performance can be attributed to the three-dimensional core-shell nanostructures and the addition of Ag, which can improves the electrical conductivity and structure stability during the charge/discharge process.
