A novel design strategy for developing fluorescent sensors with zero background signals has been demonstrated.
As proof-of-principle study, a fluorescence sensor for Cu2+ has been developed.
Upon treatment with Cu2+, fluorescence intensity of the sensor enhanced up to 811-fold.
The sensor can be utilized as a simple tool to detect different concentration of Cu2+ in water samples and living cells.
