Azimuthal anisotropy of charged jet production in Pb-Pb collisions

We present measurements of the azimuthal dependence of charged jet production in central and semi-central le="View the MathML source" class="mathImg" data-mathURL="/science?_ob=MathURL&_method=retrieve&_eid=1-s2.0-S0370269315009958&_mathId=si1.gif&_user=111111111&_pii=S0370269315009958&_rdoc=1&_issn=03702693&md5=af3704114ca547b5a0517604f2f8bf64">View the MathML sourcele="margin-top: -5px; vertical-align: middle" title="View the MathML source" src="/sd/grey_pxl.gif" data-inlimgeid="1-s2.0-S0370269315009958-si1.gif"> Pb–Pb collisions with respect to the second harmonic event plane, quantified as le="View the MathML source" class="mathImg" data-mathURL="/science?_ob=MathURL&_method=retrieve&_eid=1-s2.0-S0370269315009958&_mathId=si3.gif&_user=111111111&_pii=S0370269315009958&_rdoc=1&_issn=03702693&md5=a502abb3ef571b344332c237a661101d">View the MathML sourcele="View the MathML source" src="/sd/grey_pxl.gif" data-inlimgeid="1-s2.0-S0370269315009958-si3.gif">. Jet finding is performed employing the anti-le="Click to view the MathML source">kT algorithm with a resolution parameter le="Click to view the MathML source">R=0.2 using charged tracks from the ALICE tracking system. The contribution of the azimuthal anisotropy of the underlying event is taken into account event-by-event. The remaining (statistical) region-to-region fluctuations are removed on an ensemble basis by unfolding the jet spectra for different event plane orientations independently. Significant non-zero le="View the MathML source" class="mathImg" data-mathURL="/science?_ob=MathURL&_method=retrieve&_eid=1-s2.0-S0370269315009958&_mathId=si3.gif&_user=111111111&_pii=S0370269315009958&_rdoc=1&_issn=03702693&md5=a502abb3ef571b344332c237a661101d">View the MathML sourcele="View the MathML source" src="/sd/grey_pxl.gif" data-inlimgeid="1-s2.0-S0370269315009958-si3.gif"> is observed in semi-central collisions (30–50% centrality) for le="View the MathML source" class="mathImg" data-mathURL="/science?_ob=MathURL&_method=retrieve&_eid=1-s2.0-S0370269315009958&_mathId=si6.gif&_user=111111111&_pii=S0370269315009958&_rdoc=1&_issn=03702693&md5=2fa6848d63c95add4d7a510e3f1234bd">View the MathML sourcele="View the MathML source" src="/sd/grey_pxl.gif" data-inlimgeid="1-s2.0-S0370269315009958-si6.gif">. The azimuthal dependence of the charged jet production is similar to the dependence observed for jets comprising both charged and neutral fragments, and compatible with measurements of the le="Click to view the MathML source">v2 of single charged particles at high le="Click to view the MathML source">pT. Good agreement between the data and predictions from JEWEL, an event generator simulating parton shower evolution in the presence of a dense QCD medium, is found in semi-central collisions.
