Microstructure evolution and growth control of ceramic particles in wide-band laser clad Ni60/WC composite coatings

Nickel based MMC coatings were fabricated by wide-band laser cladding.

Coating microstructure was greatly refined by cored-eutectic consisting of cored boride, (Cr,W)23C6 and γ-Ni(Fe).

The growth behavior of cored-eutectic was successfully controlled by adjusting the wide-band laser power.

The wear resistance of composite coatings was promoted to 6.8 times that of substrate steel.
