DBD plasma was used to prepareg-C3N4-Mn3O4 composite for the first time.

The synthesis was fast, flexible, free of solvent or extra oxidant/reductant.

Plasma etching made the composite particle size smaller and surface area enlarged.

The composite could be used in cataluminescence sensing of H2S gas.

The proposed sensor was highly selective, sensitive, fast and stable in response.
