A new ceramic compound of the formula Sr2InV3O11 has been synthesized both as a result of a reaction between V2O5, In2O3, SrCO3 mixed at the molar ratio 3:1:4 as well as in the reaction of equimolar mixture of Sr2V2O7 with InVO4. The new compound was characterized by XRD, DTA–TG, IR, SEM/EDX and UV–vis–DR methods. The results have demonstrated that Sr2InV3O11 is practically an insulator (Eg=3.5 eV), melts incongruently at 940±5 °C and crystallizes in the triclinic system. Its unit cell parameters have been calculated. A phase diagram of Sr2V2O7–InVO4 system up to solidus line has been constructed.
