Chemokine signaling is a key regulator of stem cell migration and development. However, how chemokine gradients are generated for signaling purposes is not understood. Sánchez-Alcañiz et al. and Wang et al. in this issue of Neuron now describe how the discovery of a new chemokine receptor called CXCR7 helps to provide answers to this question.
