Host-guest molecular recognition based fluorescence On-Off-On chemosensor for nanomolar level detection of Cu2+ and Cr2O72− ions: Application in XNOR logic gate and human lung cancer living cell imaging

Inclusion complex of a new probe LC shows fluorescence quenching (∼ 80% at 588.5 nm) with Cu2+ while LCradical dotCu2+ ensemble exhibits fluorescence enhancement (∼84% at 562.5 nm) with Cr2O72−.

The detection limits of fluorescent chemosensor LC to Cu2+ and LCradical dotCu2+ complex to Cr2O72− anion were estimated to be 10 nM and 0.8 nM, respectively.

The “On-Off-On” switching behavior of LC in the presence of Cu2+ and Cr2O72− ions mimic the function of a sequential logic circuit at molecular level.

The fluorescent chemosensor LC can be utilized in live cell imaging of Cu2+ and Cr2O72− ions respectively.
