Power law non-Newtonian fluid unsteady conjugate three-dimensional natural convection inside a vessel driven by surrounding air thermal convection in a cavity

Thermal convection of a shear-thinning fluid driven by air external mixed convection was studied.

Finite volume simulations were used to assess the effect of power index on natural convection of modified water.

Velocities calculated with power law model (n = 0.4) are one order of magnitude smaller than using a Newtonain fluid model.

Shear-thinning fluid in vessel originates a spherical thermal plume in the surrounding air.
