Onset of flow reversal in upflow condensation in an inclinable tube

Analysis of R-134a condensation in a 5-mm glass tube inclined at 30°, 60° and 90°.

Flow reversal was well predicted by the Wallis correlation with modified constants.

LED-based method produced time-resolved data of film thickness and wave parameters.

The wave structure was similar to that observed in isothermal annular flows.

The wave frequency increased and the velocity decreased with the condensation rate.
