An ionic liquid-modified MEKC method was proposed.

The addition of ILs in BGE could significantly improve the resolution of target analysts.

The micellar system was optimized by using a D-optimal design.

A 16-run experimental plan was carried out.

Eight phenolic acids were well separated in 10 min.
