Prealbumin is a sensitive predictor of short-term outcome compared with albumin. Prealbumin levels are related to inflammation. Prealbumin levels dropped as bone mineral density decreased. Prealbumin is independently associated with bone mineral density after adjusting for traditional risk factors.
