We assessed the alterations of some biochemical parameters in healthy pregnant and non-pregnant Afshari sheep with possible metabolic disorders. Results showed 28% of sampled pregnant ewes had serum BHB concentration between 0.86–1.6 mmol/l which indicating inadequate energy intake (IEI). Strong positive correlation between serum BHBA and urea concentrations in pregnant ewes were found. The level of serum lipid composition including triglyceride and cholesterol in pregnant ewes were higher than that in non-pregnant ewes. We concluded IEI, negative energy balance (NEB), hypocalcaemia and oxidative stress are expected in pregnant Afshari ewes, especially in twin pregnants.
