Deletion of Setdb1 led to enlarged Meckel's cartilage. Chondrocytes from the Meckel's cartilage of Setdb1 mutant showed increased in size. Part of the perichondrium was disrupted and mineralization was observed in the Meckel's cartilage of Setdb1 mutant. Deletion of Setdb1 increases proliferation in vivo and in vitro. Deletion of Setdb1 enhances SMAD-dependent BMP signaling in vivo and in vitro.
