Abscisic acid (ABA) is a hormone shared by the vegetal and animal kingdoms. In humans ABA and its receptor LANCL2 target cells involved in glucose disposal. ABA-LANCL2 stimulates GLUT4 expression and glucose uptake in adipocytes. ABA induces browning of murine adipocytes in vitro and in vivo. ABA enhances glucose uptake by brown adipose tissue in vivo.
