Snapin negatively regulates the Cav1.3 expression in atrial myocytes. The overexpression of Snapin affects the Cav1.3 protein stability. SNAP23 competes with Snapin to interact with Cav1.3. A significant down-regulation of Cav1.3 together with an up-regulation of Snapin is documented in AF samples.
