Efficient production of ethyl (R)-4-chloro-3-hydroxybutanoate by a novel alcohol dehydrogenase from Lactobacillus curieae S1L19

A novel dehydrogenase (LCRIII) was heterologously overexpressed in Escherichia coli. An efficient cofactor regeneration system was built by coexpressing two genes in E. coli cells. The asymmetric reduction reaction was conducted at high substrate loading (246.8 g/L). The process could be performed even without external addition of cofactors.
