FN can improves the cyclic stability and suppresses the self-discharge of LiCoO2. There is a stronger interaction of Co3+ in LiCoO2 with FN than carbonate molecules. A protective cathode interphase is formed from the preferential oxidation of FN. The cathode interphase maintains the structural integrity of LiCoO2.
