Strontium aluminium polyphosphate (SAPH) is a multiphase pigment with ionic exchange properties. Leaching rates are influenced by the variations of the microstructure and formation of heterogeneities within the primer. The higher the PVC of the active inhibitor, the higher the leaching rates and depletion rates. Percolation threshold (Pc) for random distribution of particles in a 3 dimensional continuum is a critical value. Having a pigment volume concentration (PVC) above or below the Pc value significantly affects the leaching rates.
