Electrochemical surface area links the measured current and intrinsic activity. Uncertainties involved in evaluating ECSA of Pt-based catalysts are illustrated. More rigorous protocols to measure and report ORR rates on Pt alloys are reported. Comparisons are made between Pt-monolayer electrocatalysts and monometallic Pt.
