Photosensitizing efficacy of a novel nanoemulsion containing acai oil is proposed. PDT killed 85% of melanoma cells, while maintaining high viability in normal cells. Cell death occurred by late apoptosis/necrosis. PDT treated mice showed 82% tumor reduction in comparison to control/tumor group. Acai oil in nanoemulsion is a new source of photosensitizing molecules for melanoma.
