A series of zinc complexes supported by chiral tetra-azane ligands, (1R,2R)-[(NHAr)C6H4CHN]2C6H10 (L1H2 (Ar = 2,6-iPr2C6H3); L2H2 (Ar = 2,6-Et2C6H3); L3H2 (Ar = 2,6-Me2C6H3); L4H2 (Ar = 4-MeC6H4)), were synthesized via the reactions of the corresponding ligands with ZnMe2. These complexes were well characterized by NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The molecular structures of L2Zn (2) and L3Zn (3) were further confirmed by X-ray diffraction studies. The zinc complexes are efficient initiators for the ring-opening polymerization of rac-lactide, yielding heterotactic-rich polylactide.
