Impact on particle settling of coating granular solids with FOG studied at lab scale. 55%:45% sand-FOG composite particle 14% less settleable than uncoated sand grain. 43% of material accumulated in digester and aeration lane sediment was organic matter. Settling trends followed semi-empirical analytical expressions for transitional flow. Grit incurs mean cost of $8.2 per 1000 m3 from accumulation and mechanical abrasion.
