A statistical method for testing asymmetries in surfaces is proposed. Bootstrapping is used to obtain random samples of a point cloud. The object surface is approximated using bivariate kernel smoothers. A simulation study was designed to evaluate the performance of the method. Application to a pleasure yacht determined the existence of asymmetry.
