Load increases the wear rate by inducing wear transitions from adhesion to abrasion. Friction follows the Bowden-Tabor model at small loads but deviates at large loads. Velocity affects friction and wear by changing adhesive strengths and wear type. Surface roughness affects wear due to competitions between adhesion and abrasion.
