86% of annual rainfall is evapotranspired as green water (79%) and blue water (7%). Agriculture has the largest water footprint (WF: 2814 hm3), but 92% is green water. Afforestation scenarios shift soil evaporation to productive water consumption. Afforestation lowers the WFgrey of sediment by 19% and the pollution level by 9%. Aligning CAP and WFD goals can improve concomitantly water efficiency and quality.
