mafr-1(tm6082) mutation results in gain-of-function phenotypes. Nuclear MAF1 is regulated by the ubiquitin proteasome system. The YSY motif in the C-box alters MAF1 stability, activity, and rapamycin sensitivity. MAF1L and MAF1S are distinct species of human MAF1.
