VDR agonist elocalcitol drives metabolic processes in human muscle cells. VDR agonist elocalcitol enhances IL-6 myokine release in human muscle cells. Marked downregulation of muscle VDR expression is shown in myopathy. Vitamin D is low in myopathy subjects with higher lipid and resistin profile. VDR agonists could be useful tools to restore/maintain skeletal muscle health.
