Studies on the association of fasting insulin HOMA-IR with hypertension risk are conflicting. Individuals with the highest fasting insulin had a 54% greater risk of incident hypertension. Individuals with the highest HOM. A-IR had a 43% greater risk of incident hypertension. Ascertainment of hyperinsulinemia or insulin resistance may help to identify hypertension risk.
