In-situ observation of surface appearance evolution of Al–Si coating was conducted. The cracking behavior of coating after austenization is sensitive to tensile strain. FEM approach was used to calculate surface strain distribution of hot stamping parts. Coating cracking characteristic of parts can be estimated by surface strain analysis.
